About Cultural Center

History:

It all started in the fall of 1972, when at a Huang Clan Association banquet, representatives from three levels of government expressed support for a proposal to establish a community center in Chinatown. With the support of the government, 53 overseas Chinese groups and many enthusiastic individuals, the Vancouver Chinese Cultural Centre was established in 1973 and was officially registered as a non-profit charitable organization with the federal and provincial governments in April 1974.

The project was provided with a plot of land in the heart of Vancouver's Chinatown. The first phase of the central building was completed in 1980, the commercial building was completed the following year, and the Lin Siqi Auditorium and Central Park were completed in 1986, adding a lot of color to Chinatown.

A Richmond office was also opened in 1991 to serve the people of the area, and since its opening, the centre's heritage and library has provided long-term and regular exhibitions, library and conference activities.

Purpose:

  • To promote mutual understanding between Chinatown communities and other cultural groups in Canada.
  • To exchange ideas with other cultural groups and communities and promote Chinese culture.
  • Promote Chinese culture and art in the Chinatown community and other cultural groups.
  • Assist Chinese immigrants to integrate into Canadian culture, traditions and lifestyle.
  • To build and maintain cultural facilities for the purpose of achieving these aims and objectives.
