The various activities of the Chinese Cultural Centre are only possible with the support of honest, enthusiastic and experienced volunteers, who can be divided into four categories.
Cultural and educational activities
Program Assistant - Assist in arranging cultural activities, such as Dragon Boat Festival, Spring Festival, Mid-Autumn Festival, etc. Staff must be able to speak fluent English, be good at interpersonal communication, and be able to speak other languages (Cantonese, Mandarin, etc.)
Chinatown Tour Guide - The Centre will provide training and applicants must be able to speak fluent English, have a basic understanding of the history of the Chinese and Chinese Canadians, be willing to promote
Chinatown history to the English-speaking community, and be able to provide no less than four hours of volunteer service from Tuesday to Saturday each month.
Tai Chi, calligraphy, painting, knotting or lion dance instructors - must have 3-5 years of work experience, be able to speak fluent English, have leadership skills and group organization experience (especially schoolchildren). Except for calligraphy instructors, other instructors do not necessarily have to be able to speak Chinese, but must be patient, honest and outgoing.
Museum Receptionist - Must be trustworthy, speak fluent English and Chinese, and be good at communicating with others.
Performers - Have 1-3 years of experience in Chinese performing arts, such as music, dance, drama, martial arts, paper cutting, tea art, lantern making, etc., and can speak fluent English and be honest.
Community and Recreational Activities
Fundraising Assistant - Handle paperwork and manage promotional booths. Be creative in promoting the Chinese Cultural Centre. Able to accept flexible working hours. Sales experience is an advantage.
Event Assistant - Provides reception services for cultural exhibitions, community days, book fairs, etc. and is able to accept flexible working hours.
Summer Camp Volunteers - Looking for fun and responsible volunteers for our July and August summer camps. No knowledge of Chinese or art is required, and volunteers must be 14 years of age or older. Flexible hours. Driver - Possess a valid driver's license to assist in transporting the elderly to activities.
Office
Office Assistant - Experience in office work, outgoing, good at interpersonal communication, able to use computers, and able to provide 4 to 8 hours of volunteer service per week.
Computer Assistant - Able to handle Windows NT/95/98/XP, Chinese software, Windows Word, etc. Knowledge of computer hardware and software maintenance is a plus. Can provide 4 to 8 hours of volunteer service per week.
